More wombats on the move

Dear Tertia

I was interested to read of the reported sighting of a wombat near Hay.

About two months ago I noticed one dead on the highway roadside, about 15km west of Darlington Point.

On mentioning this to a group of friends, one told me he had seen one similarly indisposed about 10km east of Narrandera the previous week.

As they are not normally residents of this district, my question is, why/how did they come to be here?

Could they have been flooded out of their usual habitat aboard floating debris/log for a fast trip west down-river?

I have noticed a similar occurrence with echidnas in the big floods several years back.

An afterthought: I wonder if in the next flood, we get a few koalas hitching a ride in similar fashion!?

Kind regards

Wig Ryan.
