Hay's cricket community celebrated an outstanding season at the annual presentation night, marking major wins including the historic O'Farrell Cup victory. From juniors to veterans, standout players and dedicated volunteers were recognised for a record-breaking year on and off the field.

Hay Lions netball teams are shaping up to be hot contenders in the upcoming Golden Rivers season.

Hay Magpies hosted Griffith Waratahs in a tough Group 20 pre-season clash.

“For us it was a positive result,” coach Chris Stewart said.

“We played our available full-strength side for the first half, and led three tries to nil at half-time.

The Hay Cricket grand final was played at the number one oval, with South Hay Crusaders victorious over Riverina Rattlers.

In an unprecedented day of representative cricket, Hay as the current holders of the O'Farrell Cup and the Creet Cup, took on both challenges on Sunday, Wagga and respectively.

It was a tough day for both teams but a great testament to the strength of Hay cricket that it could field competitive teams in both competitions.

In what has been a long-anticipated comeback for the Hay Soccer Club, a senior side took the field on Jack Bisset Oval for the first time in recent years, and enjoyed a massive 6-2 win over Deniliquin.

As the O’Farrell cup celebrates 100 years in November, a result such as this has not been seen before, when Hay defeated the powerhouse Albury/Wodonga side.

David Davies, district cricketing and sports legend, who made his debut in the O’Farrell Cup in 1959, was at the Urana Road Oval to watch the game and his grandson Tom, who batted at number 3. David declared it the best win of all time.

Hay cricketers snatched back the highly sought after Creet Cup, defeating Griffith.

Hay Lions AFL and netball club hosted it biggest ever fishing competition in Hay over the Australia Day long weekend.

After sitting out rugby league for several seasons, local talent Jye Thomspon has been confirmed as the latest signing for Hay Magpies.

Magpies first grade coach Chris Stewart confirmed the signing late last week.

“That’s been our focus when recruiting for this season,” he said.

“We want local blokes back playing for Hay.”

Decker, the eight-year-old bay gelding trained by Jerilderie’s Ross Purcell took out the Elders Hay Cup at the annual spring race day on Saturday.

Josh Curtis, son of racing royalty Allan Curtis and Lisa Gee, is part of the Purcell stable of trainers and was at the track on Saturday.

Hay Cutters Rugby Union gathered for their annual presentation day, where Digby Lilbure was named best and fairest and player’s player for the 2024 season.

Jodie Hicks played her 50th AFLW game last Saturday night in the Richmond Tigers’ Dreamtime in Darwin clash against Essendon.

It was a frantic final few minutes of the first AFLW Dreamtime match, which saw both sides score 6.6 (42) to post a full-time draw.
