Round two sweep for Hay Magpies, in clashes against Yanco Hawks
Hay Magpies came away with three wins and a draw in their round two clash against Yanco Wamoon Hawks at Yanco on Sunday.
“It was a really good win,” first grade coach Chris Stewart said after the game. “There was a lot of dropped ball in the first half but we turned it around and stuck to our game plan.
Against a new look Hawks outfit, the Hay side went into the first-grade match in attack mode and set the pace early with punishing runs. The side was bolstered by the inclusion on Ben Arandt at lock, who settled into the role well – his experience will be vital this season.
Harley Hey put the Hawks on notice with his first tackle, a massive warning shot on what the Yanco side should expect from the Magpies defence.

Hay Magpies take historic Group 20 win
Hay Magpies won Sunday’s Group 20 women’s tackle grand final, to secure their place in history as the first premiership team of the competition, and the first women’s tackle team from Hay to win a cup.
After losing to Tullibidgeal Lakes United (TLU) Sharks in the first week of the finals, Hay caused an upset in the semis, beating Griffith Black and Whites to book the grand final berth.

Hay Magpies hosted Darlington Point Coleambally (DPC) Roosters at Hay Park on Sunday, for the final Group 20 rugby league home game of the season.
With finals in their sights, Hay’s league tag team opened their match with determination and attacked the Roosters early.

Magpies grind out first season win
Hay Magpies rugby league first grade squad played a gruelling match under lights against Griffith Black & Whites on Saturday night, posting the team’s first win for the Group 20 2024 season.
Coach Ben Taylor directed the team in the grinding game, in wet and slippery conditions at Hay Park, and it was his goal kicking the difference, but was humble in his post-game wrap up
“It’s been a long time coming,” said Taylor. “We got 100 per cent effort from our core unit.
