The John Houston Memorial Swimming Pool is a step closer to being replaced thanks to support from the NSW Government’s Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole said nearly $3 million has been awarded to Hay Shire Council to provide a more modern, inclusive and accessible swimming pool for the entire region to enjoy.

“Going to the pool on a hot summer’s day, learning to swim and taking part in club days is a quintessential part of growing up in the bush,” Mr Toole said.

“This funding will modernise the John Houston Memorial Swimming Pool, replacing it with top quality facilities and enable more local residents to enjoy the benefits of sport and active recreation.”

The funding represents 50 per cent of the money needed to replace the pool.

Council has already submitted a grant under the Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF) Round 6 for the remaining $3million required.

“As our last remaining major asset that requires renewal, Council is ecstatic at receiving the grant funding and is actively pursuing the remaining funds to allow the pool upgrade to occur in the short term,” General Manager, David Webb said.
