Redevelopment of Lachlan Street servo under consideration

By Krista Schade

The site of the former Treloar’s Service Station in the middle of Lachlan Street, is the subject of a complete renovation proposal before Council.

The developer is the Badaoui Group, based in Bairnsdale Victoria, and headed up by director Michael Badaoui.

The development proposal is currently under consideration by Hay Shire Council, with further information requested from the developer, before potentially being determined by Council later this year.

A period of public consultation recently ended.

The development application proposes a complete renovation of the site, which historically housed the former Royce Curtis Motors, and more recently Treloar’s Service Station.

Documents lodged with Council and NSW Planning indicate new vehicle paths, drive through coffee and extended trading hours.

“The service station will cater to locals and people in the town wanting fuel, convenience items, hot food ready to go, coffee and drive thru facilities,” the submission states.

“It is proposed to operate the service station on a 5am to 11pm basis Monday to Friday, and 6am to 10pm Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays.”

The documents lodged also state that the refurbishment is aimed at catering to local needs, rather than those of transport operators.

“It is not a truck stop and will not cater to B double trucks; these trucks are already well catered for on the highway with the existing sites.”
