Questions about Pottinger Wind Farm development
Dear Tertia,
I have a proposal for our councillors, who accordingly to your report, are in “full support” of the Pottinger Wind Farm.
If you had a few spare dollars or a couple of spare million, would you invest in the Pottinger Development?
I’m sure everyone knows the answer.
The Pottinger Development (like all wind farms) is a massive con on Australian taxpayers.
These turbines cannot produce cheap electricity.
They are unreliable and are a proposal to satisfy the lunatic left in the Labor Party, who think the sky is about to fall in and think nuclear energy will kill us all; despite the Lucas Heights ANSTO having operated safely with over 60 years of experience in nuclear science and technology.
Chris Bowen, the relevant minister, will say anything, but I think his audience is starting to wake up.
The renewable industry is on the nose all over the world. Mayor Oataway claims Pottinger presents an opportunity for change to our local economy.
That can’t happen without cheap power, and Pottinger won’t do that with turbines.
They are expensive to build, expensive to service and unbelievably expensive to decommission when their working life has expired.
Their blades are known to shed toxic PFAS into surrounding pasture, which could affect grazing animals and further, affect humans placing at risk the entire Australian meat industry.
If Mayor Oataway and her councillors want to broaden the local economy, they need to encourage a return to coal fire power generation, nuclear and gas like every other country in the world is doing.
Without cheap electricity, Australia and the Hay region will not be competitive.
Your report quotes an independent economic test indicating hundreds of millions of dollars in direct and indirect benefits for the Riverina over the next 35 years.
This includes jobs (where?), a community benefits program of up to $34 million to Hay Shire for critical community projects and services etc, all of which the State Government is paid to do.
The six million dollars for the First Nations fund would be pleasant surprise for its recipients.
Whatever is in the critical community projects that’s going to grab $34 Million in the coming years?
Please do not build any more kids play parks. We've already got more play parks than kids!
Tertia, from the tone of my letter, I’m sure you’ve gathered I remain highly sceptical of the Pottinger project.
This town goes well without the Pottinger pot of gold.
These development companies are not here to make Hay wealthy, they are here to make themselves wealthy, and they will do that when they set their electricity prices.
Did your readers get the same letter I got from Origin energy last week?
Up the prices go again!
But Chris Bowen says the prices are going down.
Australia’s electricity prices are now approaching the dearest in the world, and Albo is talking about encouraging industry to re-establish to provide jobs.
Industry demands solid permanent energy, and that is what solar and wind is not.
The sooner government acknowledges that we must revert to coal fired generation, gas and as soon as possible nuclear generation, the sooner Australia will be “back on track”.
All over the world, renewable power generation has been found wanting, and being dumped daily.
Developments such as Pottinger, if approved will be a sorry saga for generations and generations to come.
Every member of Hay Shire Council should have a serious re-think.
Thank you for the opportunity to respond,
John Clark
